Hi! My name is Jacqui Kolar. I’m the reading specialist / Title 1 teacher for the district. This is my thirteenth year at Big Hollow. Prior to working at Big Hollow I taught full day kindergarten and a full day pre-k/kindergarten mixed group.
I attended and received both my undergraduate and graduate degrees from National Louis University; undergraduate B.S. in Education and Master’s degree in reading/reading specialist. I have continued my studies focusing on dyslexia and became a dyslexia consultant in June of 2013. I am able to screen for dyslexia as well as tutor students who are dyslexic (I also tutor students who are not dyslexic)
I attend as many reading conference as possible each year in order to keep up to date on research and to learn new reading strategies and reading programs. I am a member of the International Literacy Association, Illinois Reading Council, SCIRA and International Dyslexia Association. I am a member of Kappa Delta Gamma; women educators “society.” I am extremely involved with children’s literature; I’m on the Board of the Friends of the Center for Teaching Through Children’s Books in Skokie, IL.
I have always loved to read and hope to instill a passion and love of reading in our children. Reading is the window to the world!
I am looking forward to a great year of reading!
